Bribie to get a drenching

South-east Queensland is set for a soggy couple of days with up to 400 millimetres of rain expected along the coast.

Moreton Bay Regional Council is encouraging residents to prepare for the possibility of flash flooding with the Bureau of Meteorology forecasting extreme weather from Thursday, May 30.

An East Coast Low is predicted to develop off the southern and central Queensland coasts from tomorrow afternoon and could bring heavy rainfall of up to 250mm until Saturday morning.

The predicted heavy falls could increase the risk of flash flooding.

Wind gusts of up to 30 kilometres per hour are also possible by Friday as the East Coast Low moves through region.

Moreton Bay Regional Council has begun offering sandbags to local residents.

Sand and sandbags are available at the following locations:

Bribie Island SES – 208-224 First Avenue, Bongaree
Arana Hills SES – 2 Pine Hills Drive, off Jinker Track
Beachmere – Rogers Street Sports Ground
Narangba – Oakey Flat Road (between Raynbird Road roundabout and Sovereign Drive roundabout)
Caboolture Council Depot – corner of Commercial Drive & Machinery Parade
Deception Bay Council Depot carpark – Old Bay Road
Elimbah – Coronation Drive (opposite the church in the median strip)
Petrie SES – 3 Woonara Drive
Redcliffe – Corner Portwood Street and Lamington Drive (opposite Redcliffe Showgrounds)
Woodford Council Depot – Mary Street
Woodford Memorial Hall (rear car park)

Residents are encouraged to bring a shovel to assist with filling their sandbags.
