On Wednesday Senior Sergeant David Crawford-Raby had the pleasure of attending the commissioning and naming ceremony for the new Volunteer Marine Rescue (VMR) vessel ‘Bribie Two’, and was later given a tour of the vessel by Commodore Bob Skinner and Vice Commodore Annette Mengel from Bribie VMR.
Bribie Island VMR is a member of the Bribie Island Emergency Management Group (BIEMG), and provides valuable support and assistance to the Island’s emergency services. These include Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) by providing an on-water fire fighting capability, Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) through dedicated patient transport facilities on board their vessels and for Bribie Island Police, by providing officers with transport to campsites that are inaccessible by road, and directly assisting with search and rescue activities in the Bribie Island area.
Members of the BIEMG meet regularly, and undertake exercises to maintain readiness and a interagency co-operation. Exercises using the new Bribie Island VMR vessels have been planned for the coming months, and the vessel is a welcome addition to our communities emergency response capability.
