Police investigate Bongaree house fire

July 19, 2015

Detectives are investigating a fire which caused extensive damage to a home in Bongaree last night.

Police were called to the house on First Avenue around 6.15pm after reports of an explosion at the address.

When crews arrived on scene, the house was fully alight and had sustained significant damage.

Queensland Fire and Rescue crews were called to the scene at First Avenue, Bongaree just before 7pm where the fire was well underway.

Two trucks were still on site at 9pm according to a QFRS spokesman.

“We had five to six on scene at the height of it,” he said.

“We’re not sure about the extent of damages at this stage but we believe the house was empty and there have been no injuries.

“Due to the fact it was well alight when we got there I’d say it was extensively damaged.”

There was no one inside the residence at the time and no one was injured as a result of the fire.

At this stage, detectives are treating the fire as suspicious and a crime scene has been established.

Anyone who may have witnessed the fire or has any further information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

Investigations are continuing.
