Work will get underway this week on the construction of six new pedestrian passing bays on the Bribie Island bridge.
The new passing bays will better meet the growing pedestrian and cyclist demand and address concerns from community members about the walkway, by providing more opportunities for pedestrians and cyclists to pass each other on the bridge.
The 3 existing passing bays on the bridge are no longer sufficient for the increasing pedestrian and cyclist traffic.
Construction is expected to start this Sunday – 22 March 2015, and is expected to take between 8 – 10 weeks to complete. These works will take place between 6pm – 6am from Sunday to Thursday. Lane closures and delays outside of peak-flow traffic can be expected.
Member for Pumicestone, Rick Williams, has confirmed that work will get underway this week.
“As an added bonus, our beloved bridge is also getting a facelift,” Mr Williams said.
“The new pedestrian passing bays will make the pathway more user-friendly for cyclist, pedestrians and motorised mobility devices giving them many more opportunities to safely overtake.”
“Further to this a yellow line will be placed down the centre of the walkway which cyclist have said will assist them to navigate the bridge.” Mr Williams said.
